Cooling Preparation
Cooling Tips for Warmer Months
Getting ready for summer is mostly about airflow and a few easy habits.
Spring cooling preparation
Before the first hot week, look over the system the same way you would in fall.
- Replace or check the air filter.
- Clear about two feet around the outdoor unit.
- Rinse loose debris from the outdoor coil fins gently with a garden hose if your manufacturer allows it.
- Confirm the condensate drain area looks clear and dry.
Reduce heat gain
Blinds and curtains on sunny windows can noticeably reduce how hard your system works in the afternoon. Running ceiling fans counterclockwise in summer creates a gentle breeze.
Steady settings feel better
Frequent large thermostat changes can make rooms feel uneven. A consistent setpoint, adjusted modestly when you are away, is usually easier on comfort.
